Monster Heroes
There are so many ways to create a party of heroes. The traditional party pretty much always has a healer, a tank (a person who can take a lot of damage), a damage dealing spell caster, and another miscellaneous character. But, when I am trying to be creative with my parties, I like to think of other creatures to make as a party of heroes.
One way I did this was by creating a hero party of monsters.
This campaign consisted of a silver adult dragon in human form, a minotaur, a
banshee, and a djinn. I won’t lie, it was challenging trying to create a
backstory that brought these unlikely characters together. Even with all the
challenges, it was so much fun. There’s a lot to be said for a creative party.
The story felt real. The challenges the characters faced made us think outside
the box. I found myself really getting into character and asking myself questions
like, “What would I do in this particular situation?”
A party of monsters faces many different challenges. When
going into town, it’s important to know how the monsters will disguise themselves.
Is it going to be by magic or some other means? These are important questions.
If they don’t disguise themselves, the towns people might end up trying to kill
them too. It would complicate the story drastically.
