The Start of an Adventure

There are many different ways to create a character for a D&D campaign. 5th Edition has so many books available for maximum creativity with character class, back story, subclass, and many more. I recently decided to start a new campaign with a different type of character.

Now, this character is a Triton, or a creature that lives underwater. Her name is Tria and she is an Inquisitive Rogue. We came up with a backstory and everything for this character. To make things fun, we rolled a dice to see what kind of backstory, flaws, personality traits, ideals, and other things she would have. When you have an idea of what your character is going to be like, you can tell what kind of things would fit with what you had in mind for your hero.

Like I've mentioned before, there are so many different ways to create a character. It's even more fun when you do add the backstory and flaws. It makes them feel more alive. However, you can personalize your character as much as you want. It really brings out creativity.

I've created this character Tria to run in a solo campaign. That means it will just be my character with my husband playing Dungeon Master. Solo campaigns can be fun, but tricky at the same time. I won't have a team to bounce ideas off of. But, it will be a good way to try out different traps and other things, just to see how it all works out. Sometimes, it takes trial and error. Sometimes, something will work great at one moment and then be totally wrong for another campaign. It's really about what fits with what you are wanting to achieve.

Here is my solo character in full:

My name is Tria. I am a Triton who has lived a very adventurous life. I always find myself looking for more. My hunger for knowledge is never sated. I grew up in a small village under the water. My mother gave me a basic education that left me wanting more. I left home to build on that basic knowledge. I became a Sage and studied Alchemy.

Growing up, I have always been nimble and quick witted. As my knowledge grows, so do my talents. I have learned that I can use them together to achieve my goals.

I have been on many adventures. On one such adventure, I contracted a disease while exploring a filthy warren. I recovered, but it left me prematurely gray. I look at it as a badge of honor. I learned a lot from that experience. On another occasion, I was taken captive by the Kuo-Toa. I was a slave to them in the underdark until I escaped. I acredit my escape to my vast knowledge.

Now, I still haven't found the answer I seek. I am hoping this new adventure will point me in the right direction. Only when I find my answer, will my curiosity be sated and life will be complete. Until then, I will never stop looking...

Just like all the other times I create a new character, I'm always excited to see what's next. It's like a good book. You never want to put it down.
